🌍 Meet The Virgo Traveler: Where Adventure Meets Intention

Hi, I’m Tanya - and welcome to The Virgo Traveler, a space where organization meets wanderlust, and everyday trips become unforgettable journeys.

As a lifelong adventurer, researcher, and obsessive planner (hello, fellow Virgos!), I believe travel is more than a change of scenery. It’s a full-sensory experience. And no matter where I go, from work trips to weekend escapes, I’m always looking for ways to infuse a little adventure into every mile.

— Anita Desai

✈️ How It All Began

I’ve always been the one with the checklist - not just for what to pack, but for what to feel, taste, learn, and experience. Whether I’m traveling solo or for business, I don’t just visit places - I immerse. I learn the stories, meet the locals, study the flavors, and collect memories that go far beyond my camera roll.

🧭 Adventure With Purpose

Every trip I take, I challenge myself to explore something new - a trail I’ve never hiked, a dish I’ve never tasted, a tradition I’ve never known. But I also make room to slow down and soak in every moment. My goal is always the same: affordable, intentional adventures that push me to grow and fill me with joy.

🗂️ Planning Is My Superpower

Behind every great trip? A Virgo’s brain and a planner’s heart. I dive deep into research, study maps like novels, and customize my itineraries to make the most of every destination. I thrive on crafting the perfect balance between structured plans and spontaneous discovery, because even though I’m addicted to planning, I also live for random discoveries along the way. Just ask my sister how annoying I was while driving around Ireland and Northern Ireland every time I saw ruins! I felt obligated and excited to pull over and explore them all!

🍲 Food Is My Favorite Souvenir

One of my favorite ways to bring a trip home is through food. I seek out local dishes wherever I go - in markets, home kitchens, street stalls - and recreate them in my own kitchen as a way to share the journey with loved ones. (Travel is even better when it’s served with a story and a side of something homemade.)

This Vegetarian Haggis Cottage Pie in Edinburgh, Scotland has become our annual Christmas Dinner since we tried it in 2022 while on a family vacation. Sidenote: I, strangely, had already procured a copy of The British Table (Cookbook for purchase here) on a previous trip to the UK and the recipe for Vegetarian Haggis was in there!

📸 Telling Stories Through Travel

When I return home, I don’t just upload photos to a cloud and move on. I create physical photo books - living, touchable storybooks that let me relive each adventure and share it with anyone who’s curious. Each one is a time capsule of places, people, and lessons that changed me. It seems like one of my next few articles should be dedicated to the process of building these very special keepsakes, using Shutterfly. After a recent adventure with my Mom, I created a storybook for her - with a few extra details included - so that she can remember the trip for years to come, even when her brain may not recall the details fully.
